Explore The Coast on Horseback During Your Pismo Beach Vacation

Whether exploring the Pismo Persevere, enjoying a tasting at a local winery, or spending a relaxing day at the beach, you’ll never run out of things to do on California’s Central Coast.

If you’re looking for an activity that allows you to create memories, stimulate all of your senses and enjoy some time in nature, you’ll love horseback riding!

Let’s look at some of the best places in Pismo Beach for horseback riding for you to consider while vacationing in Pismo Beach.

The Benefits Of Horseback Riding

With all the fun things to do, it is easy to wonder why you should go horseback riding. Some might find these huge animals intimidating at first, but you’ll find that the horses at these ranches are very gentle and frequently have inexperienced riders. Horseback riding is a great way to get the family together for some good old-fashioned fun and is incredibly beneficial to all who try it out!

Children, in particular, benefit from learning how much work it takes to care for these magnificent creatures. Horses need more than just feeding and brushing. They require a lot of love and detailed care. Seeing all that goes into caring for these animals teaches riders not only responsibility but also discipline, patience, and dedication.

Since these animals are much larger than humans, ranch and stable workers must train each horse to follow rider instructions. This takes an extreme amount of practice and patience; riders will have to follow instructions given to them by ranch and stable employees for not only their safety but for the safety of the horse as well. People who ride regularly will learn to collaborate with other equestrians.

Riding also aids mental health. Connecting with a horse can relieve a lot of stress and anxiety. Horses frequently help people recover from traumatic events and help with mental health challenges. For instance, therapy horses can help veterans overcome PTSD. Just like dogs and cats, horses build intimate and trusting relationships with their humans. Many people who own a horse consider it to be a friend.

Experts also use horse therapy to improve a patient’s movement. Specifically, riding a moving horse forces our muscles to move along with the horse. This can help riders tone their muscles, develop a better sense of balance, heighten their reflexes, and much more. You’ll exercise your legs, core muscles, and other body parts, which are often neglected with another exercise.

Finally, riders can have so much fun & create memories during their Pismo Beach horseback riding adventures. Not only can you see nature from a different vantage point, but you never know what unique moments riding a horse will bring.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons to try horseback riding. This activity is particularly fun for families. It’s an activity that anyone can enjoy and a special way to experience the countryside together. Horseback riding can also provide a close look at how our ancestors experienced California for the first time on horseback, depending on horses for transportation.

Going on a trail ride allows people, including adults and children, to try something new. You can see how awesome it is or decide it’s an occasional treat. With that in mind, let’s look at some places to go horseback riding near Pismo Beach.

Covell Ranch Clydesdale Rides

Located in Cambria, Covell Ranch is a Clydesdale horse breeder. They offer trail rides and motor vehicle tours of their ranch, with advance registration required. The beautiful property features 60-80 Clydesdale horses, rolling pastures, wooded areas, and a bird’s eye view of the Pacific Ocean.

You’re in for a treat if you don’t know about Clydesdales. Clydesdales are called draft horses, which means they are used for pulling carts and other cargo-related tasks. These animals are enormous but are also gentle giants. Because of their size, they are generally seen as the smoothest horse to ride. Also, Clydesdale horses are known as the horses bred to pull the Budweiser wagon.

At Covell Ranch, the minimum age to ride is seven years old.

Central Coast Trail Rides

If you want to drive inland, check out Central Coast trail rides. They have agreements with several wineries, ranches, and other establishments. As a result, you can experience the lovely wine country around Paso Robles on horseback. With a standalone trail ride, you’ll get to ride through vineyards. For adult riders, some packages let you enjoy a wine-tasting mid-ride!

Children are allowed to ride with no set age minimum as long as your ride leader thinks your child can handle it on their own. Your family can then return to one of our Pismo Beach rentals and enjoy watching the sunset in the West, over the water.

Work Ranch

Farther from our Arroyo Grande rentals but still a great day trip is the Work Ranch. In the Cholame Hills of San Miguel just outside of Paso Robles, California, owned and operated by the Work family. On 12,000 acres, the ranch is largely made up of untouched terrain. You’ll see how this part of California looked when the first pioneers arrived. Here you have the option to ride one of the ranch horses or even bring one of your own.

Children must be eight or older, two people minimum.
